About this plan
A small chair from five plywood panels: two shaped side frames with an arch cutout and handle slot, a seat at 310 mm, a triple-slotted backrest, and a front stretcher. Fourteen 7×50 mm confirmat screws — seven per side — hold it together with no other joinery.
Every dimension is generated from the same custom-size model. Scale it from toddler to schoolkid and the 3D view, the cut list, and the CNC file follow — the configuration link always reproduces exactly what you see.
Questions
- What age is it for?
- As drawn, the 310 mm seat suits roughly ages 2–5. Measure the child's knee height floor-to-crease and dial the seat slider to match — the backrest, slots, and screw positions follow.
- What plywood should I use?
- 18 mm Baltic birch or similar void-free plywood. Thinner sheets flex under climbing loads; the configurator allows 12–24 mm if you want to experiment.
- How do I make it kid-safe?
- Round over every exposed edge with a router or sandpaper, ease the slot interiors, and finish with hard-wax oil or a water-based lacquer rated for toys.
- Can I cut it on a CNC?
- Yes — the download is a real-scale SVG with CUT outlines for both side frames, DRILL positions for all fourteen screws, and non-cutting labels. Hide the LABELS layer before cutting.
- Can adults scale it up?
- Within bounds: the sliders top out at 750 mm tall and 600 mm wide, which reaches small-adult side-chair territory. Past that the proportions stop being chair-like — design for the sitter, not the room.
